I love Brasil and the Brazilian people. I have been to Brasil 8 times. I usually travel to Minas with my friend who is from there. My old partner was from Sao Paulo and I have been there a few times. last year I spent a month touring the Pantanal. It truly was beautiful, but the mosquito's,, OUCH!!!!. We left there and spent a couple of weeks in Campo Grande and headed back for a month in Santos at the beach. For the past 10 years I have been growing Jilo, Quiabo, couve and other veggies here in the Boston area during the summer. This is a great way to meet Brazilian people. I had 3 Brazilian women along with there children come to the farm to get Jilo. They wanted 5 pounds each, but wanted to pick the jilo themselves. They wanted to show the children what it was like to work a Fazenda. Most of the kids were born here and never worked the farm. The ladies wanted to keep their culture alive. When they were done they picked almost 30 pounds and had so much fun with the children and I guess themselves picking. I gave each one the 5 pounds and bagged the other 15 pounds or so and gave it to the children. This will be their first taste of Jilo. I am hoping to get to Vitoria and up to Recife this winter. Carnival is early this year.
