Does anyone know if there is a public transportation system in Rio de Janeiro?

We would like to know if there is a shuttle service or taxi transportation between Rio De Janeiro International Airport and Martinique Copa Hotel
on Copacabana Beach. There is nothing mentioned on the Hotel website, and there isn't information on the Brazil Tourist websire either, other than hiring a car driver is unsafe because of the poor roads and drivers. We would specifically like a bus/shuttle to and from the airport and hotel if anyone can give us the information on this.

The best choice is the pre-paid taxi. As someone said before, is a little more expensive than the regular yellow taxi but it is for sure the best option.
On the bottom line of the options is the bus, even the Frescão wouldn't`t be a good choice.
Have a nice trip!

There's a bus that runs from the airport to downtown and then along the beachfront called the "Frescão." The last time I arrived at Tom Jobim International Airport, the departure times and place were not well marked. I hope they've fixed that.

If you take the Frescão, ask your hotel to give you a well-known landmark along the beach so that you'll know where to get off.

We used taxis and some local buses. The taxis are the best. We found a driver that we used several times.

Enjoy. LH

There are two kinds of taxis you can find at the airport. One is a prepaid taxi which is more expensive BUT it is a guaranteed rate. The second one is a metered taxi (yellow cabs). They are cheaper, but you just need to make sure the meter is running and they don't take the long way to town!

Most people recommend that first-time visitors take the metered taxi because it is a guaranteed rate. But, if you do enough research maybe you'll be comfortable enough to try the yellow cabs. The hotel may also be willing to e-mail you the directions in Portuguese so that you can just hand them to your driver.

Taking the bus might be a bit riskier, although definitely cheaper. I just don't like the idea of having ALL of my luggage with me in a public place for too long. All you need is 1 person to grab your suitcase and there goes everything you placed in that suitcase.

There are numerous websites on Brazil tourism. See below for just a couple of starters.

By the way, you might also be careful where you exchange money. I have heard that it is best to exchange money at the ATMs on the upper level of the airport vs. on the lower level (where you will be arriving).
