Has anyone rented an apartment in Rio de Janeiro before?

Hi. I want to rent an apartment in Rio de Janeiro but there are a lot of sites. has anyone rented from one of them before and if so, would you recommend it? Renting an apartment can be expensive and I want a good experience for what I pay.

I've used Vanna at www.vannarioflats.com.br many times and have no bad experiences with her. Tell her what you want and she'll fix you up with a place. She doesn't own any apartments herself so she's not pushing any one apartment/area. Cause she speaks English landlords use her as a broker. She'll take you to different apartments (if you want) until you find one you want or you can just trust her with the choice. Her standards are a lot higher then mine. If there is a "bad" part with renting from Vanna it's that you need to give her a cash security deposit when you sign the contract. The amount is usually US$100 or equal which you get back when you leave (provided there isn't any damage to the apartment). She attaches the money to the contract and keeps it in a safe and you actually get the same bills back. I've never had to give up any of the security deposit and from her talking very few people actually don't get the whole deposit back. She'll also provide you information regarding security, the latest scams, places to visit, etc if you want. Enjoy the trip.

I rented from a site called http://www.rentinrio.com a couple of years ago. The apartments are on the pricey side, but they're high quality (at least mine was and the other pictures on the site looked good too).

The owner was very talkative, but he really wanted to make sure I had a good time and that everything would go smoothly. He wanted to make sure i wouldn't have problems with the landlords and even gave us some travel advise. I was going down there with my friends and he wanted to make sure that we wouldn't end up butting heads with anyone if we got loud. The guy was just really friendly and honest. Definitely give it a shot if its in your price range.
