The teacher and astronaut Marcos Pontes was born in Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil, on March 11, 1963. His life history is inspiration source for millions of youths in Brazil and in the world. Originating from of humble family, he began to work to the fourteen years to help in the house budget. He dreamed in being pilot.
He entered for the Air force. he served Brazil in the specific military functions of the active up to 1998, when he was selected and he started to represent the country in astronaut's civil functions in NASA, in Houston, Texas, in the Program of the International Space Station.
In 2005, the astronaut was invited to participate as crew member of the Missão Centenário, maid, defined, contracted and managed by the Brazilian Space Agency, that it is the only organ responsible of the Brazilian government for the administration of politics and budgets of the space section in the country. The objectives of the Mission were: to accomplish national experiments in microgravidade, to motivate the growth of that research area in Brazil, to honor the hero Santos Dumont and to promote the Brazilian Space Program. |
