Well Brazil is my country and I love it! We drink water all the time because Brazil is very heat. So If our water is Polluted you couldn't see Brazilians walking on street. I have never been stolen here! Really! I've lived in Rio.

So much baloney....if you walk around with your rolex and your tourist hat on - you are asking for trouble. I lived there for half a year and walked 10 miles a day all over Ipanema and Leblon (did not wander too much in Copa - that could be a little rough)...never any trouble. Sure things happen. But if you just respect the culture you will begin to feel the pulse of the city...and you will move with the beat. Awesome food. Some regional dishes I did not care for but I had some of the best food I have ever had....A cup of acai....pure delight. All the fresh fruit juices you can stand....some you have never heard of. I did drink bottled water but just to be safe...I had ice in my drinks and never got sick from that...That being said - you do not want to go barefoot in town. You can pick up a parasite from the dog and human waste that gets washed on the sidewalks. Hey - it is like New York on the beach....The city is alive and exciting and the people are happy and active and live each day...what's not to like.....Stay long enough and you never will want to leave.

My brother lives in Rio and I hear nothing but horrible stories about it there. He recently had a 5 year old pull a knife on him and take his money. The crime is HORRIBLE! Lots of poverty and gangs. They can't flush toilet paper down the toilet, I don't even what to know what they do with used toilet paper there. Can't drink the water, etc.

I love Brazil!
I'd rather get pick pocketed by a 5 year old than shot to death in a classroom by some wacko. Seems they have a lot of those in the US...
