The main difference in going to Brazil on vacation or living there is that you will have to work in Brazil and that can be challenging. Brazil is a great country and I would recommend living in the coastal area and avoid bigger cities such as Sao Paulo. Rio is my favorite city to visit and live.

The one big difference is the work ethic. Brazilians are not as into being number one and finishing things ASAP as Americans. Brazilians tend to have meetings about everything and seek for consensus.

Besides the difference in work ethic, Brazil and Brazilians are great and will welcome you to their country like you were part of their family.

Hope this helps.

Brazil is a huge country with distinct customs and peoples in the various regions within. If you want to be a tourist, go to Rio, hang out on Copacabana or Ipanema beach, visit Corcovado (Christ statue) and then head south to Iguacu Falls. However, if you want to see the real thing, travel around and take in the local flavor. Go north to Salvador or Fortaleza and see the African influence; go to the center (anywhere in Minas Gerais) and see the agricultural traditions that are a huge economic engine to the country (stop by the Capitol Brasilia as well); and / or go south to the financial center of Sao Paulo and further south to Porto Alegre. Travel by bus where you can (GOL airlines is another optin as well), but take time to watch and learn. Then decide if it is for you! Boa sorte (good luck in port.).
