How are the subways/metros in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo?

Additional Details
I visited Rio and Sao Paolo in 1974 with my family when I was 9 years old, before the subways were built.

I can only tell you about São Paulo.
Subways are very good, but their range is limited. New lines are under construction. You can travel downtown by subway.
What concerns trains, there are better ones and really terrible lines! And not so many lines either.
Neither subways nor trains have spread out through the city - there are many places you can't reach using them.

Hi !!!

My name is Vanessa and I live in São Paulo. I don't know about Rio de Janeiro, but here, the subways are very good. I took them many times. They are clean and well conserved. There is one that there is a mall inside it with movies and many stores and treats. I was very surprised and shocked with the terrible accident that happened almost 2 weeks ago... São Paulo is really very big. Many many people.Million of people takes the subways everyday because here, rush time in traffic..is all day long.. and when school time begins... it gets worst..
I've been to Rio de Janeiro 4 times , but I never took the subway, so I don't know how it is like...

Well, I am sorry I couldn't answer everything, but I hope I could help you.

Have a lovely day !

Sao Paulo, clean, spacious, air conditioned, lots of police presence.
