How big of a following does Anderson Silva have in Brazil?

He must be big in Brazil. He is very popular in the USA. More American know who Anderson Silva is than Kaka, Ronaldinho, and Ronaldo put togehter, its cause maybe MMA is a much better sport than soccer or futbol.
Soccer considered a lady like sport in the USA to many people.

Anderson Silva is the most dominant UFC champion ever. He gone undefeated and has either knocked out or submitted his opponents in each of his fights.

I was wondering if he was more popular than the likes of Kaka and Ronaldinho. I think he should be cause MMA is a much tougher sport than futbol. MMA training is toture and soccer training is a breeze compared to MMA training.

I live in Brazil. I can tell you that Anderson Silva is not known by most of people. I only know him because io am a sports fan, but I've never seem one of his fights. By the way MMA can only be watched by pay-per-view, and not everybody pays for that. I think I am not exagerating on saying that Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer or Mike Tyson (hahaha), are more famous here than him...
Another interesting fact is that Anderson Silva is such a common name here that I have a cousin with this name!

Nice question...

sorry about my english mistakes.

Believe it or not MMA in Brazil is not as big as it is in the US, When I go there and talk to peers, girls and family members they all look down on the art. The average Brazilian often think mma is for trouble makers, remember TANK Abbott, they don't see these fighters as legit athletes. Now on the other hand for those following the sport Wanderlei, Anderson, Minota, the Gracies and Co. are fighting gods walking among men.

Futebol in Brazil is so instilled in every Brazilian that there never will be an athlete greater than any futebol player, when I say NEVER I mean it too; When the notional team plays world cup the whole country stops to watch.
I agree with you the mma training is lengthy, gruesome and arduous, however the country looks down on fighters. When I train there I constantly meet fighters that are garbage man, brick layers etc.. during the day and train nights, on tourney days I would say 99% of them show up minutes before a match coming from work. So much talent, RAW talent, but no appreciation to these modern day warriors, gladiators, guerreiros modernos.
