How come there is no MAINTENANCE of the old town of Salvador?!?
Pelorinho and other OLD parts of the city of Salvador need to be protected and preserved for future genarations...It's our HISTORY,and what is beautiful and fascinating about this town.
1) the primary problem is that it is expensive to maintain and preserve - and frankly the funds are needed elsewhere
2) politics and corruption - sad to say, but some politicos are more apt to line their pockets than to spend it on buildings
I think if folks could see that there is a need to preserve, it might just happen. If they could market it for tourism - or offer incentives to businesses to participate in the preservation, etc. it might happen. Take for example the endangered animals in Africa - many of the foks there recognize there is more money to be made in preserving the animals for tourism than in killing the animals (poaching). I think it has to be a community decision and everyone needs to buy in and see the importance.
Personally, I have not been to Salvador, but I have friends from their and I have seen many photos and it is something to see. I love the architecture and style and history.

I recently went on vacation to Salvador, when we went to downtown, it was beautiful, and There was restoration. It was minimal but there was some. Hopefully if more tourist turn to Salvador that will increase the revenue.

My guess is politics. Maybe you should start a group to help raise money to fix it up.

There is restoration going on but funds are very short. Bahia is not a wealthy state.

The Bahia government is forgetting that Salvador has a lot of sightseeing and need to be preserved. Nowadays, Salvador registered a reduction of tourists...

You´re completely right...but I´m afraid you should do your complaining to the right people...the Administration Office of the city of Salvador, the Mayor´s office and the House of Representatives of the city of Salvador.
Good luck!
