How difficult is it for an American to move to Brazil? |
I've got some musical skills, language skills, computer skills and writing skills. Do they frown upon Americans expats over there? |

Jeremy, depends a lot on if you are willing to do work such as teaching English etc. There“s always demand for English teachers here. Specially native speaking people.
I actually met a couple of US citizens doing that here.
To get a legal visa is very hard, need a company to sponsor your etc, but the immigration agency does not go after you as it happens in the US.
There are also some hotel jobs you probably could get into in Buzios for example (www.buziosonline.com), its a small beach resort 2 hours north of Rio with some 350 small inns and hotels (Pousadas). Some wont care that you dont have a visa. To buy a marriage is very cheap and there“s no policy to check if its for real, like there is in the US. You could probably do it for 500US or 1000.
Music business is more tricky, I think.
They do not frown upon US people at all, or any foreigners for that matter.
Good luck. |

i agree with what everone said..
but if you are looking to move.. consider in buying a house.. or investing your money in some way. You can get a permanent visa if you prove the you pay taxes. Depending on the location.. you can find a nice 2 bedroom 2 bath house on 1-2 acre for $45,000.
good luck |

Brazilian citizens for the most part don't frown on foreigners or expats, but the government doesn't make it easy to get a work visa. It is about as tough as getting a green card in the states. The best thing is to hook up before you leave with some U.S. company that will sponsor your visa. The American schools are often looking for teachers. If you can write, and want to work as a reporter, you can apply with the wire services like Bloomberg |

It depends on how much in demand those certain skills are. There is huge poverty in Brazil, but prosperity for those who have money and a trade. You shouldn't really have much trouble in terms of nationality as people there are very friendly.
You could try travelling to the country for a couple of years first to get to know the people and the locations and try to formulate a good strategy regarding your skills to make your move permament. |
