Kim G,
Well with those 10.000,00 you can really make a party in Rio, if you stay in a budget to mid-range hotels, buy few tours... you can stay for while , i can say almost 3 months, with a luxe lifestyle i can say that you can enjoy for 2 months for sure. beacuse in Rio USD1 dollar is equal to R$2,40 reais(used to change, but stays between 2,20 and 2,50), so is like to have USD 24.000,00 dollar.
The only thing that i recommend is to travel by an agency because you can have someone to complaining about every problem that you have and guarantees that all services will be done.
When is was there i travelled by a really nice agency.

Is a really good one.

Now because of the economic crises 1 dollar = 2.28 (8 monts ago it was about 1.65)
The time will obviously depend on how you will spend it.If you stay in an good hotel, the money will go away faster. If you want to come for brazil to live for a while it would be good to take a interchange, but if you want to come on your own I recommend you to rent a furnished flat.(Cheaper than hotels)
To rent a nice flat you would spent about 500-600 dollars month(depends on the location).
To eat you have two cheap choises:
Kilos - restaurants self-service that you by your food by weight
and
Fast-foods chains like McDonald's or BK - 6-7 dollars for the mc donald's number 1 (fries, big mac, and a 500ml coke)
Taxis are more expensive than public transport (of course).
Depending on where you're going to stay you'll have excellent public transport(e.g São Paulo: great subways and a buses integrated with google maps) |

It depends on how you live.
I would say you will spend around 500 US in cheap accommodation and then around 500 US in cheap food/transportation. When I say cheap, it doesnt mean automatically bad...I mean a fair value for quality. So, I would say that 10,000 would give you 10 months.
Remember that there are people that live with 250 US a month in places like Sao Paulo or Rio. |

It depends on where you go. In the north of Brasil, which is generally poorer, you could probably live modestly for a year. In the south (especially Rio which is the most expensive city in SA) it would go much more quickly. The costs of cabs, nightlife, eating out, and tourist attractions adds up and you can easily spend $100 a night. However the exchange rate is much more favorable now than when I lived there, so your money will go much further. |
