How much money do I need to take for a week in Rio (Brazil)?

I'm off to brazil on wednesday with some family, I'm a 20 year old female who wants to come back with a few souveneers(e.g. rosary beads, cds etc) for some friends and relatives. Most of my food and drink will be catered for and I won't be going out much apart from shopping and the beach, but I just want to know how much I should be taking in US$ to cover the cost of buying presents, drinks at the beach and maybe a little shopping ( 1 or 2 tops or something).
Thanks !!!!!

If youre just going to be the normal souvenirs and having a drink or two on the beach,Rio can be quite reasonable
I would calculate about 40-50 dollars per day.On some days youll spend a little more and other days a little less.
Enjoy youself and Happy travels

With the US $ being as soft as it is, it would be better for you to exchange your it to the Brazilian Real at a US currency exchange, generally found at most international airports, as you will not get the same exchange rate once you are in Brazil. As for buying souvenirs, they are pretty much the same cost as you would find in the US. As for the drinks......well they will vary depending on where you go. There are very few drinking establishment at any of the beaches in Rio and for the ones that are near the beach. they are very expensive. Beer will go for about 8 Real ($12 US) a can, but remember they are 40oz cans and a mixed drink will run you around 14 Real. When I was there, I found it best to buy your gifts at the airport just prior to coming back, so you can carry them onboard with you. The luggage has a tendency to be rummaged thru at the airport and you may very well lose any gifts you bought and packed.
