How much should I budget for a trip to Rio?

I'm going to Rio De Janeiro around New Year's time this year, and I need to know how much I should save up. I already bought the plane ticket. (I will be there for 2 weeks)

I enjoy windsurfing (I live in Corpus christi, TX) and a lot of other watersports. I also am planning to party hard on New Year's eve, and generally I want to have a good time. I have no problem staying in guesthouses, hostels, or really crappy hotels. I also have no issues eating street food. I just want to enjoy the sun, the surf, and the nightlife.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Carnival and New Years are the worst time to visit Rio. The prices are about double "normal." As New Years in Rio is billed as the largest in the world, they have no problem getting the prices they ask for lodging. If you stay in a really crappy hotel, you'll wind up broke without any clothes or other possessions. The price of rental for a beach chair and umbrella (R 15?) and beer on the beach (R 12?) will be livable but nightlife will be expensive. All the water sports will also be expensive.

As for your basic quetion of how much, I usually budget US$ 140/night but would double that for the new year's period. Of course, it depends on what the exchange rate will be during that period. If staying two weeks, consider renting an apartment. They would be cheaper then a hotel, you have a larger room, a real kitchen (read refrigerator for beer/wine and food) and more privacy/security. Check out www.vannarioflats.com.br I use her all the time and she's honest, and will give you a fair price on an apartment.

Hey jose!
Man, I love radical sports too, but my preference is for flying sports, like handgliding, paragliding this kinda of stuff, you know, feel the wind in your face, adrenaline in high levels...
I know Rio de Janeiro is really good at watersports, like rafting, windsurf, kitesurf, wakeboard, kayaking... is amazing how much stuff this city have.
When i travel to leisure like you want i recommend to buy this tours and hotels with a web agency that i met in web. http://www.riodejaneiro-hotels.travel/
They are really nice, and if you request a tour that they dont have, they find someone that have and book to you... really nice guys. And the director is good at rock climbing, he shows me the sport, is really cool guy.

Good luck pal!

$2,000 a thousand a week would be a good lenient budget
