How much would a Louis Vuitton purse be marked up in Brazil versus what it would cost in US?

Ipod nanos are $650 US in brazil vs $150 US in USA. What is the mark up for Louis Vuitton?

Louis Vuitton's bags are internationally marked. I visited the Louis Vuitton shop in Rio (just adjacent to Sterns) and let me tell you they were pretty expensive. As they are imported from France, the price is the same in US than in Brazil. Electronic goods like Ipods are manufactured (well, most of them) in the US and therefore are not imported goods in the US but they are in Brazil. Brazil has a very high tax for imported goods, they do that to defend their economy and national products. But with things such as Vuitton bags, better try a Premium outlet in the US (several in Orlando or Pidgeon Forge Tennessee)

here are some prices:

1U$ = +/- 2R$

An small one here is about 200R$, or something like 100U$

Sorry to say but it's the same price in Brazil,Argentina or New York.

The purse is definately more expensive in Brazil. Like the Ipod, the purse is not made in Brazil, therefore it is subject to a 60% tax because it is imported. At the store the item is marked up to reflect the import tax includuing warehouse fees, stamps, port taxes etc etc. At the cash registar the item is then subject to a VAT (value added tax) of roughly 20%.
All of this does not include the normal mark up of an item by a retailer in order to turn a profit. For an imported luxury item in Brazil you can pay anywhere from double to 4 or 5 times as much as you would pay for it in the U.S.
