Unless inflation has been 100% in the past year that seems like crazy money-I think you have been ripped off as a gringo :(

averagebear
Whoa! That's way too much! I only paid $30 USD to Ipanema. Shouldn't Copa be even less?

todd
Its a little high, but nothing to worry all that much about. I stayed in a hotel near there and I was charged about 45. The drivers down there can really rip you off if you dont watch out. But considering the distance ( 25 miles from airport) 63$ is nothing crazy, although not great either.

Pam
Rio de Janeiro International Airport to Copacabana is around R$55,00 to R$60,00 reais ($27.00 dollars). How many people are going in the cab? Email me if you need more info.

60 Brazilian Real = 28.22560 US Dollar

60 US Dollar (USD) = 127.544 Brazilian Real (BRL)

Interbank rate +/- 0%

This means:
You buy 60 Brazilian Real : 28.22560 US Dollar
You sell 60 Brazilian Real : 28.13216 US Dollar
You buy 60 US Dollar : 127.544 Brazilian Real
You sell 60 US Dollar : 127.967 Brazilian Real

Median price = 0.46887 / 0.47043 (bid/ask)
Minimum price = 0.46838 / 0.46977
Maximum price = 0.47008 / 0.47148

$63 is definetly on hte dear side...I think htey ripped you off...If it was a yellow cab that you just picked up outside the airport then I am not surprised...for the future: Take one of the white cabs, they have aircon and will tell you a fixed price before taking you anywhere

Hey, we booked a company(or at least our Brazil based travel agent friend did) called Rio Airport Transfer - www.rioairporttransfer.com - They charge per car, not per person and they wait for you in the airport with one of those signs with your name on it. The taxi drivers in Rio are crazy, and will rip you off 3 times over if they get the chance, so definately pre-book your transfer if you can. Our driver was really nice, and even obeyed most of the road rules :-)

Cheers

You, you definitely got ripped off. It should've probably been $63 reais, US$25ish.
