I have been to Brazil many times, and yes, I was mugged - but it was due to my own stupidity. Never go to a dark beach at 2am with a nice shiny watch...even in the USA!

Anyway to answer your question - dont try to 'move' your stuff to brazil. You will get mugged through all the taxes!!! Sell what you can, and you will benefit by a 2:1 (or better) exchange rate to the real (currency). DEPENDING on where you move to, you can either go great or bust. SP and RJ are very expensive. Especially in electronics (so dont sell your laptop - bring it).

LEARN PORTUGUESE!!!!! You will need it.

Finally, living in brazil and earning a living in brazil is very expensive everywhere. If you are only doing it for training using a conversion of US dollar, then you will be fine. If you plan to stay, this is another issue.

Okay, the guy above is exagerating. I'm Brazilian, I'm 20 years old, and I have never been muged.

I lived in Brasil for 25 years and i never been muged. As any place in the world you just need to know where to go, what time and with whom , and you'll be fine.
The cost is a lot less then here, for each dollar is 2,15 real (brasilian money).
