To answer Gustavos question first, if you were black you might have a better chance of ftting in certain areas. It seems most Brazilians rnage from a light tan to black in color. You don't see many Brazilians that look like a white American until you get into the South of Brazil. Even then it is generally easy to tell a white Brazilian from a white American. I am sorry that Gustavo was so rude to begin with, and probablly didn't understand your question. I am thinking that you being a white foreigner are nervous about traveling to a new country and sticking out. In a sense becoming a target. I myself have spent ample time in Brazil. I am a white American and stand 6 feet 4 inches tall. I have blonde hair and green eyes. I also dress very American. I only had problems in a city called Recife, where I really stuck out. I was targeted for a few muggings that were botched when it was discovered I spoke fluent Portuguese and had about 10 or more Brazilians with me. Any foreigner in any country is easy target for a crime, just be safe, vigilant, and don't do anything you wouldn't do in your own town. If you have any other questions contact me. |

it'll be better for you to go to unpopulated areas than going to the big metropolis. the people in the smaller brazilian communities tend to treat foreigners with much more hospitality than city folk. i'd strongly advise you not to go to rio de janeiro or sao paulo because the crime rate there is beyond the charts. especially rio because the cities are surrounded by slums and here and there there's always going to be some kind of gunfight. |

EVERY big city is dangerous. People gotta take this idea out of their minds that Rio and SĂŁo Paulo are dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!! of course unpopulated cities are more "relax"!! |

...a chance of be eaten by a grizzy bear? Well in Cuiabá chances are greater that a lightning strike hts you straight your head not because you are a white Unitedstatesian but cause here is the land of the electrical discharges. If going to Pantanal chances are bigger to burn your skin than to be eaten by piranhas or alligators. Chances are even higher to get malaria fever than a cough. Or to be sawed by the razors of some Canadian, US, European and Asian companies slashing the forests are yet very optimistic. So, considering that corporation values are above our humanity, I bet your chances to die here suffering from any human harm is minimum compared to the ones a foreigner may have in US in a same level of unpopulated areas. There is no shot gunners and other maniacs, no paranoic paramilitars religious extremists and not even E.T.s to abduct the billy families. Still yes, a good insurance plan can make a difference.
And btw, "they say there is no rest to the wicked ones"... and as for the Brazilians, many believe that Chupacabra continues to vampirizing some lambs. So the place to avoid must be only the Varginia areas in Minas Gerais, which is so far from Mato Grosso if that is the region you are aiming. |
