How to get to the Amazon River?

Show all answers

LaMariposa
The River flows through Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brasil, but the most common place to start is Brasil because it is more accessible. The river is narrower in Northern Bolivia so you will probably see more wildlife.

The river is high from March to July, so a tour will run during this time

A good route to take is fly to Brasil, then overland or fly to Manaus. From here you will take an Amazon cruise.

Varig and LAB fly international flights. A cheap national airline is Rico, but there are many.

If you choose to overland it from Sao Paolo or Rio the buses are VERY comfortable. Choose business lcass for very little extra and you will be more comfy than a plane, it will just take longer!

Personally I would choose to end up in Venezuela from Manaus.

I agree with everything "oricle" said. Just watch yout timing. The seasons are reversed from the northen hemisphere
and watch the rainy season.Tough going when it's always wet.
