Usually safe for tourists that do not underestimate Rio´s violence. Violence is more common in suburban areas and favelas, but can happen in tourist sites. The tips are: avoid driving alone, because you could get lost and end up in a dangerous zone. Avoid the favelas, unless you are going on a tour. Always carry some money, so you can have something in case you are robbed. Never react in case of armed robery.

It is fairly safe, but watch out for unlicensed taxis and and do not accept anything from straNGERS BECAUSE IN THE END THEY WILL WANT SOMETHING IN RETURN. vIDOE CAMERA IS OKAY, AS LONG as u plan to stay in a tourist area and watch it often

Stay out of the favelas, unless you have a tour guide. Watch your wallet in the Copacabana at night, becomes the red light district. People tend to drop things on you shoe, clean it then demand money. Video camera should be ok :).
