I live in São Paulo, around 85km ( less than 1 hour to arrive there ) there is Long Beach, a medium social class beach but good, you can take a bus into Jabaquara MTR station direct to there.
Around 100km from here you can find Guarujá city ( 1h20min to arrive there )with some nices beaches where you can surf and etc, you can take a bus on the same station, is a B and A social class beach, so pretty.
Around 3,5h from here you can find Ubatuba city with very nices beaches, I think you can take a bus to there from Barra Funda MTR station ( you can ask at hotel ), is very nice, no polluted beaches. São Paulo is higher 900m of beaches, on top montains, the roads have nices sights.

go to Rio de Janeiro for the beaches. you can catch a bus .. its one state up from sao paulo not too far. go to cobacabana beach and ipanema beach.
sao paulo is strickly bussiness .. if you want fun go to rio
if you do any other traveling .. go to Salvador, Bahia.
its my favorite city and state. beautiful culture and peeople. the beaches are spectacular, very calming and laid back city
