Sincerely I cannot answer, SÃ£o Paulo has a very sophisticated night depending on where you will be accommodated you will need a very refined dressing.
If you will be at a simpler hotel and will make the typical city tour of tourist, you only need jeans, shirt, and light dresses, in December it will be summer and it is advisable to bring bath clothes, in spite of not having beach in SÃ£o Paulo the city has great aquatic parks.

Sao Paulo is pretty much a business city, like NYC. for local standards it is considered expensive city, but based on the exchange rate, I don't think you will have problems with that.
December is summer down here, temperature can get 100F, just to aware you, but it is also known for crazy weather, you can get all 4 seasons in one day. If you used to really cold weather, snowing, nothing will be compared to that here, bring layers. If you are coming for tour, do not worry too much about dress code, we are not as formal as US, unless you are considering expensive restaurants, or something like this.
About your souvenir... I think only you will be able to find this out, I believe memorabilia is a very personal matter.
