I wanna move to Brazil, what should I do? |
I am obsessed with the idea of moving to Fortaleza, Ceara, em Brasil!!!! I live in the United States and absolutely hate it here. I know it may not be better in Brazil, but that's not the point. My question is, where should I start if I want to move to Ceara and buy a house there. Things I want to know:
1. Do I need a visa in order to become a citizen of Brasil
2. I am 26, will I be respected there as an adult?
3. How do the banks work in Brazil? Will I be able to borrow money for a house?
4. Can I borrow money from USA to buy a house in Brazil?
5. What are the average prices for beach front homes in Ceara? (Doesn't have to be exactly in Fortaleza)
6. What are the costs for Schooling, transportation, medical insurances, retirement plans
7. Will it be safe for me to live there when everybody will know I'm an American?
8. How should I prepare myself before going to Brazil? I am still in school and will graduate next year. I don't really have a high credit score and I don't really have much to offer, except for my Organizational Communication, managing and business degree. So once again, where should I start preparing myself right now?
Thank you! And please, please, please, give me extra information in case I missed something you think is important!!!! |

Try to get a job first.
I suggest you contact American companies instaled in Brazil, may be it can be easier for you.
Examples:
IBM, DELL, HP, APPLE, GM, FORD, etc...
But unfortunatelly they are usually far away from nice cities with nice landscapes, beaches, etc..
Ceará is a poor state, with beutiful beaches and places to visit, but it might not be the best place to live.
Try Florianopolis, look it up on google.
Also, try to learn a bit of Portuguese, the language is similar to spanish, but a little more difficult
the people will not hate you here, all inteligent people know that ex-president Bush, does not translate how ALL americans are!
I worked with several americans at IBM, and most of them seemed very nice, wanted to learn a bit more about the culture, travel around, get to know the good part of Brazil.
Sure, there were others that didn't look interested at all, seemed in a hurry to go back home, and had a snob look on their face, but really one or other. most were pretty nice.
good luck! |

Dude, you must have courage to live in a country with the language for as diverse as Brazil.
I moved to Brazil is a long time, I married a Brazilian, I have 4 children Brazilians.
Don't come without knowing the language.Portuguese's much more difficult than you imagine.
Don't come without a temporary place to live. Don't come without a job.
You will not borrow money in banks.Dude, is very expensive live in Ceara.
As the price of the property, separated from this link to you search.

You can try a job as a teacher of English, for starters.
Good Lucky, dude |

First you have to get a job, you won't get the Brazilian citizenship if it doesn't prove that can stay financially in Brazil. The second and also very important it is to learn speak Portuguese. Brazilian bank to give credit it is very difficult, for us Brazilian it is difficult to get a loan. You can ask for a loan in U.S.A. but the payment is made in dollars and not in Real if the Brazilian coin to be depreciate you will have problems to paying the loan. As for safety's problem for the fact to you be American, it is not problem the only inconvenience is that you will be called of gringo. I don't know the price of the house in Ceará, but in Rio de Janeiro with certainty is much more expensive. I admire your courage in changing for a country of which you don't have affectionate bows. Try to get a job in a hotel in Ceará, even if is not for you to be in that job for a long time you will know the place before establishing indeed.
In Brazil a man with 26 years is already married and father of at least a son, you are an adult. |

Jeez, what the hell do you want to do in Ceará? Hahaha!!
Come to Goiânia, it's the best place to live because we're very calm people and our city is suitable for everybody, it's not so lazy as in Ceará and not so busy like in Rio and SP, my english teacher is from Britain, he's moved to Goiania 6 years ago and he says he'd never go back to England and would never leave Goiânia to another city here..
But you're american, people here hm or they loooooooooooooove you or they haaaate you for being american, but we are likely to love you, because it's not always that we've got GRINGOS around here so we really like to know about your culture and learn english....
Look, buses here suck ,they're expensive, 2 reais or something each time you step in the bus.. school? hmm, we have free schools but they suck, the students just learn badly the subjects and they throw papers at the teachers..
But you should learn our language, we would not understand you here if you don't speak Port. |
