I will travel to Rio and wants to see a samba flolcklore dance! Its good if i go to plataforma in leblon?

Plataforma or "Plata" as we call it in the 80's was the best steak house in Rio and a major meeting point for hype people.
I saw Tom Jobim there so many times I lost count. (composer, names Rio's international airport, composed Girl from Ipanema with Vinicius de Moraes).
Then they add renovations and it lost its charm totally.
The samba show is ridiculous and a waste of money.
If you want to see real samba you have to check the Samba "School's" rehearsals. All of them have rehearsals on weekends. You'll need to hire a car to take you and wait for you, they are in the north zona and the way can be tricky and a bit far, but it will cost less and you get the real samba idea.
Plataforma for the meat. Forget the show.
If you go, don't forget to ask for a Kiki Salad along with your meat.
The "Picanha ao Sal Grosso" is the best.

BTW, not a misnomer, just different meanings for a word.
The Escolas (schools) here have the meaning of an association. It's not as used nowadays, but it was some 50 years ago. Same goes for some soccer teams.

IÂ´m brazilian, and know Rio since a child. IÂ´m very angry about those people that say Brazil is a violent country. ItÂ´s not the truth!
Some places are, in fact, like the favelas, but not the all country.
U have to come and meet other beautiful places. Answering the question: Leblon is a good place, but I concern u to look for some nice places in Barra and Copacabana. If u like samba, come near the end of year, so will be the beggining of summer here.

Brazilians wouldn't describe samba as folklore, but the suggestion to visit an "ensaio" is the correct one. Ensaios are run by groups called samba schools (misnomer, they're not schools) and are partly parties and partly practice sessions for the next Carnaval parade. Most of the samba schools are in poor neighborhoods that are not part of the regular tourist trail. The most accessible are probably Vila Isabel and Salgeiro. Follow the link below.
