The hotel is fine (You know - it is not the best!). I think that it is 300 meters of the beach.
The Toneleros street is famous because it was scene of a political crime fifty years ago (They tried to kill Carlos Lacerda - a crime wich resulted in the suicide of brazilians's president - Getulio Vargas).
Take care! In Carnaval the tourists have to take care!

yeah the hotel is fine i've stayed in it many times...its got reasonable prices its in the heart of copacabana, close to te beac, friendly staff and good views...i have got to admit there are better hotels (copacabana palace) but i suppose it is good value and i'm sure you will enjoy it you have every right to be excited

Make sure when you walk on the streets of Rio you do not show that you are are from another country. Plus do not have any value thing with you, such as, neckless, rings, etc. Brazil is one of the best contries in the world but there is still ignorant people living there. The drug dealer are taking over Rio de Janeiro, so please be careful. |

Try other place, less violent. My english is terrible, writing and speaking, but I´m trying to help you not to be murder by a poor black boy, scaring, looking for a plate of food. |

Im from Rio and I love the city.
But, for tourists, the best place to go, assuming you like beaches (not bitches), is Bahia. Bahia is a state north of Rio.
There are great packages for tourists coming from britain. Try www.vilagale.com.br or www.costadosauipe.com.br or www.hoteltransamerica.com.br.
Also visit the following towns: Buzios (2hs from Rio), Porto Seguro and Itacaré (both in Bahia).

i do not know the hotel, but information in their website seems to be a reasonable hotel. Did you try find any hotel near beach ? there are some in front of the beach. |
