Yes, there are plenty of calling cards you can buy. I was there not long ago and I needed to make a call from the bus terminal and sure enough I bought a few to have and used them all. I can remember the companies but you can get at the newspaper/magazine stands or even in pharmacies. You will find if you ask, there people help. Just know who to ask. In a good store, or pharmacy they might know. Just try. http://recarga.com.br/ (Just so you know check this website) Prepaid cards, and you can recharge. (EMBRATEL is the company and the word is: cartao telefonico)

No such thing in Brazil, the prepaid cards over there are to be used only on public phones because they don't use change like here, instead of coins you have to slide a card to make calls.
Some phone companies have lower rates on nigh time, you can check the operators over there.
Some people use the internet to make online calls to the US. Anyway, even the regular international rates are not so high in Brazil, way cheaper than making an international call from the US.

I highly recommend PhoneBell http://www.phonebell.net

Calling from Spain to USA, the best rate is 1.9 cents / min with maintenance fee, or 3.4 cents / min without maintenance fee. the above currency is USD.

Check http://www.eecalling.com/p/?id_from_country=79&idcountry=182 to compare all calling cards.
Buy online by Paypal or credit card. Receive instant PIN# by your email. Simple, fast and convenient.

Different from USA e Europe we dont have a really good calling cards.... My suggestion is SKYPE, try it at your hotel or any lan house. There is a big one at ANA ROSA underground station (Rua Vergueiro 2040) called ROX, they have a very nice VIP area with web and microphone. It will save u lots of money

You can buy anywhere, like places that sell the press.
