I live in Brazil. No, Rio isnt expensive at August because no have Mmore carnaval (was at feb) and the some persons are studing in scholl or working.. Because this some beautiful girls dont go to beachs all day of week, but she goes at sanday and monday to beachs. I like location house in Barra da Tijuca or Angra dos Reis - hoteis is LITTLE expensive.
I dont know about S. Paul at August - I dont like there for vacations.
August have good sun.
If you like beautful cities, go to CANOA QUEBRADA, CEARÃ, North Brazil (beachs), but goes with your girl friend or FERNANDO DE NORONHA, Pernambuco - North Brazil - or LENÇOIS MARANHENSES (Maranhão - North Brazil) - or FLORIANÓPOLIS (SOUTH BRAZIL at JAN OR FEB) - The best beautiful and no expensive and inesquecible to stay with big love.
North Brazil have sun all months and no have thiefs
FERNANDO DE NORONHA is very beautiful and I love more, remenber my infance, when I was children in Rio was little and dont have more violence. But is expensive refer a taxa of manutencion of preservation - is very beautiful. Good vacations.

If you like it cool, August is ideal. Temperatures in Rio in the 70s and in Sao Paulo in the 60s. Most people in Rio do not go to the beaches in August - they think it's cold - so the beaches aren't crowded. Take a jacket for the evening, however.

If you are from North America, think of Rio and Sao Paulo as being in the dead of winter. Expect rainy conditions. They are enjoying summer right now.

Brazil can offer some good values, just like Mexico. However, Rio itself is fairly expensive. It has always had some "cachet."

Hi. August is a bad month to visit either SP or Rio because it is cold (about 50F). There are few people in the beaches and little to do. ALSO and most importantly, because of atmospher pressure all the pollution (I mean pollution into your lungs) come down to ground level. A lot of people in those two megacities get sick. Hospitals get flooded with people of all ages. BUT August has the lowest airfares to Brazil and if you go to restaurants you get better service because there is about 10% fewer customers. If you want to enjoy the beaches, forget about August (and Sao Paulo has no beaches at all - it is located 1 kilometer above sea level on a plateau).

It is winter down there in August. That won't make much difference on the coast line of Rio. The beaches should still be delightful and less crowded than December to February.
In the higher elevation of Sao Paulo, you can expect cooler weather. Be prepared for rain and bring a sweater or jacket for some cool weather.
The cost of Brazil depends upon whether you want to maintain a U.S. standard of living, hitting all the tourist traps, or if you are willing to see the country as a native and do as the natives do. If you live like a native, then it is not expensive at all. If you live like an American tourist, then you will pay American prices and more. Frankly, I was appalled by Rio as the biggest tourist trap I had ever seen. Go ahead and see the sights but don't waste too much time there. Be careful of locals that are more than willing to take advantage of you.

I've only visited Brazil in March - April .. which was WAY too hot..
and in June.. which was perfect weather ..their winter was just beginning in June and it was great. I think temperature wise.. August is a good time to go. .. unless you are looking to hit up the beaches.. then you should go between dec - april which is their summer.

the cheapest place i've found plane tickets for so far is a site called sidestep.com .. you gotta let the page load all the way to see all the results.. you will see it loading in the upper left hand side.

Brazil can be expensive .. depending on what you do.. if you go to alot of tourists areas.. they will be more expensive then if you were to do local things. Generally .. brazil is not expensive.

there are many websites you can do your research on.. or if you'd rather just read a book about it.. lonely planet makes great books about Brazil. .. that i found usefull when i traveled there.

they tell you everything from the History.. tours.. what to take with you.... the dos and donts.. what to expect.. a few simple phrases in portuguese.. its a great book
