Is Brazil a good place for retired people live?

I am considering the possibility of living in Brazil after my retiring period. Should someone who already lived there say to me if this is a good or a bad idea?

i totally disagree with everyone. yes it has its crimes.. and it is bad in some places more then others.. and its just like any other big city. But brazil is wonderful. beautiful people .. people language.. people culture and food. The people are so careing and passionate. its like paradise on earth. My favorite city is Salvador, Bahia.

you can always take a tour of brazil see what u think. If you haven't already. I would highly recomend the Iguazu Falls .... Salvador, Bahia .. and Rio.

good luck

I tend to agree. Basically the bottom line is that your retirement money would provide a better value here in Brazil. However, if you live in a large city -such as the beautiful Rio de Janeiro- the associated risk for someone used to low crime rates is too high.

On the other hand, if you would consider moving to small / medium sized city by the sea, and poverty doesn't bother you Brazil could provide a good alternative for your retirement. Another thing that you might consider is the fact that the Real -BR currency- appreciated against the dollar -currently almost 2 to 1- and real state prices in nice -premium- locations in major cities are well in line with those of the developed world. Cities like Florianopolis, Camboriu, Angra, Ubatuba, and Parati could provide a good alternative if you are willing to explore further.

In any case, always consider Florida as the first option.

I would not choose it.. I was told by a friend who is married to a Brazalian gal and he said that one has to pay about $300,000 just to get a residency and then have to have an income of no less than around $5,000...

My wife is Brazilian. We go there about every year. If you want to live in the city (Rio, Sao Paulo) be prepared for lots of violence. You can be just driving down the street and get shot at. At night it's highly recommended that you don't stop at stop signs or stop lights cuz you're likely to get car jacked. Happens ALL..THE..TIME.

If you retire to a resort area ... like Angra, Buzios, or up in Recife you'll be better off. The dollar goes a long way for sure. All in all however, not sure that's where I'd retire.

BRAZILIANS SEEM TO LIKE IT. DO YOU SPEAK PORTUGUESE?

Sure it is if you want to get mugged every other day, have murders committed right outside your residence, watch people get kidnapped and raped across the street from the town market, and enjoy dodging stray bullets from gangs as they fight down your block.

Have fun and send us a post card... that is if you make it in one piece.
