white 53.7%, mulatto (mixed white and black) 38.5%, black 6.2%, other (includes Japanese, Arab, Amerindian) 0.9%, unspecified 0.7%

Plus it depends if you mean percentage or total population. The population of Brazil is 191 million, so about 90 million would be white.

Brazil has the second largest black population in the world, including African countries. Only Nigeria has more black people than Brazil.

It is possible, because there are many European immigrants and their descendants in Brazil. For example, in the South of Brazil, there are whole colonies where only German or Italian are spoken, and only Italian or German people (and their descendants) live there.

But I saw something on the Brazilian channel I have that the number of blacks will surpass the number of whites in 2008; i.e. whites are going to be less than 50% until the end of 2008.
But it still could be true it is the 3rd white population in the world, because there are so many people in Brazil.

I am not sure if Brazil has the third largest white population in the World. I am an European-Brazilian girl, and I can tell you that the number of Afro-Brazilian or mixed people is over the number of whites here. Brazil has the largest black population outside Africa, and the Afro-Brazilians generally live in the Northeast of Brazil, specially in Bahia (The largest Afro-Brazilian State). We whites usually live in the Southeast and South of Brazil.

That is a statistic which Brazilian Government do each eyar. Unlike in the United States, race in Brazil is based on skin color and physical appearance rather than ancestry. For example, a mixed Brazilian man can consider himself as being a white person, independently of his true ancestry. Have you ever heard about Ronaldo, the football player? He is a mixed Brazilian, but he has said in public he is a white man. So, I am trying to say there are many mixed Brazilians like him who consider themselves as being whites in these kind of statistical, even that they look like blacker than whites. So counting all of these people plus white people, you have the number 93 million whites. So I am not sure if Brazil has the third largest white population. Did you get my point?

NOPE! Brazil has the SECOND largest BLACK population in the world, second only to Nigeria.

i doubt it, brazil has an amazing mix of almost all the countries in the world, indians, africans, europeians - hence the reason for their amazing looks

Because I'm Brazilian and I see that we have more black people than white people.
An example is Bahia: Bahia (a Brazilian state) is the place that it has most black people out of the Africa of all the world.
By the way, here doesn't have black people or white people purally. There isn't. There are the Mulatos (mix of blacks and whites).
I think it just has a purally race in Brazil: the Indians.
