Is It True That Many Southern Brazilians Who Visit The Nordeste Get Confused For Being Gringos ?

My Brazilian friend who lives here in the U.S but is originally from Joinville, Santa Catarina said when she went on vacation to Salvador, Bahia 2 years ago, many Baianos confused her for a Gringa.

Here is what she looks like. She says she is of German, Ukrainian, and Portuguese ancestry.

It's true. Bahia is an afro state of Brazil. It's uncommon to find white people there.
But it isn't happen only in Bahia. When I go to Europe and I tell them I'm Brazilian, nobody believes me because I'm white. European thinks that Brazil has no white people.
There are many european descendents here in Brazil, but we usually live in Sao Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Parana...

Yes! Some of my sothern Brazilian friends got frustrated that they were categorized as gringos like me! It's only superficial though; once they start speaking there's obviously no confusion.

Could be - there are a lot of folks of European descent in southern Brasil - German, Italians, Portuguese, Spaniards, Poles, Lithuanians, Ukrainians and Ashkenazi Jews.

These can be mistaken for "gringos"

I remember living in Brasil some time ago and a friend of mine was from Joinville and he was always mistaken for a gringo - even more than I was.

Yes!
The Southern and White Rio de Janeiro people is confused by Europeans people.

On Rio de Janeiro have 2 parts.
The South Zone, North Zone and downtown is White neighborhood. It's a rich city, similar to Switzerland motto life.
And West and East Zone is Mulato/Black and poor people.

But the Rio de Janeiro Accent is the same of French.

For example, I was born on South Rio de Janeiro and I'm blonde, white and have gray eyes.
