Yes, it's true. This happen because of the immigration of the German, Swiss, Poland and others european countries. And it is not only in Santa catarina, but in Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná too, and in others small cities, like Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro, were I work.

Yes, Brazil like the USA is a melting pot of Ethnicity. Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul (both in the South of Brazil) have very large German immigrant populations. São Paulo has a huge Japanese and Italian community. In fact it it is very difficult to describe what a Brazilian looks like. I am third Generation Brazilian and I have Blond Hair blue eyes due to British decent. One interesting note is that Brazilian Passports are some of the most falsified because the passport can be used for someone who looks virtually of any ethnicity. |

Yes, most of the population. They are German and Italian descendants, mixed with Portuguese from Azores, so mostly whites.
Giselle Bundchen, the supermodel, is from near there. All the 3 states in the south of Brazil (Santa Catarina, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul) are like that. |

Yes, I suppose so...to generalize things. Most of the people in the most southern states of Brazil like Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul have are of German descent. |

yes i have been there. in the south of brasil there are many descendents of the german immigrants that went there in the end of the 19th century and beggining of the 20th century. there are some citites that actually speak german instead of portuguese, the oficial language |
