If you subscribe to the theory of "contrarian traveler" Tim Leffel in his book Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune, May is a great month. The weather is nice in most parts of the country, and it is off-season for tourists, both international and domestic. Excellent time to visit Brazil.

I think you will like Rio in May or any other month lol. In May it is rainy we will be going to winter. However Americans like it even in May.
Places: Sugar Loaf, Christ Statue, Maracanã, Foresta da Tijuca, beaches of Zona Sul...
Try stay with a Brazilian you know because of the Portuguese.
I hope you enjoy.

Oh, I don't even know where to begin! Be sure to stay in the Zona Sul area, I don't know if you've read of the violence in the favelas recently. However, I must tell you the media plays up the violence. I have been there twice and never had any problems. Copacabana is absolutely wonderful, and so is Ipanema. I would suggest seeing Cristo Redentor, and Sugar Loaf. Jardim Botanico is something I didn't see, but wish I would have. Be sure to not wear flashy jewelry, and just be modest with your belongings you bring with you. Also, stay at a hotel where they speak English, that way you can have them help you with reservations, and other questions. Depending on your budget, I would suggest staying at the JW Marriott, it is WONDERFUL. Have fun!!!
