Is Sao Paulo City Like New York City?

Sao Paulo is for Brazil what new york is for u.s.a., like Toronto is for Canada, like Milan is for Italy.
Financial capitals.
So the answer is yes.

ocean.denis
Making a very free analogy, you could compare São Paulo with NYC. It´s very cosmopolitan.
Rio on the other hand, even though there´s a lot of nightlife etc... it´s very provincial. You bump into people you know everywhere, its a village. A 10million people + village, but still a village.
Sao Paulo has so much cultural activity it´s amazing.
I was born there but moved to Rio very young, years later I lived there for a couple of years and was amazed. At first I was sure I was gonna hate it, but actually loved it.

nola_cajun
yes

I have been to Sao Paulo, and yes there is a lot of violence, but nothing compared to Rio that is one mean place, at night. Sao Paulo is a lot like New York just twice the size! Traffic last all day, serious, new york style traffic all day! If you have some locals who live there show you are its a GREAT PLACE, if you are going to be a tourist, think twice.

capitao_brasileiro
I would say Sao Paulo is like L.A. and Rio de Janeiro is more like New York.

Patricio
Much bigger than New York. Great night life and restaurants, hotels and entertainment.

Miss Fashion
Yeah Sao Paulo is like New York, there alot of building, pollution, many people, traffic everywhere...

Orlando neto de marajo
Helo! I`m Brazilian. No, there are in Sao Paulo many violence it`s a dangerous place like Rio de Janeiro, but Sao Paulo is very big and has a lot of restaurants, buildings, traffic,polution...

No. New York have Manhattan and it sky scrapers. São Paulo don't seems like it, of course.
New York have a harbour. São Paulo has no border with any ocean.
New York have almost the same area (1,214.4 km²) than Rio de Janeiro (1,260 km²), while São Paulo (1,522.98 km²) is a litlle bit bigger than Rio.
New York is the most famous city in the world, while São Paulo is unknown, outside Brazil.
New York is a mix of Rio de Janeiro (famous city, harbour, touristic points, etc) and São Paulo.
There's no similarity in terms of appearance. There's no camparition between these two cities.
