QuestionHead

Is shipping to Brazil through USPS safe? if not, how can I ship to Brazil for ship?

Hello, I am going to open up a business in which I will be selling to Brazil. from USA. Clothing, Accessories, Fragrances, etc. I was wondering if shipping to Brazil through USPS is safe?

I know that now UPS handles USPS' international shipments... but not sure if it is UPS who takes the shipment to your door... or they just take it to Brazil's "Correios" postal system and they do the delivery inside the country.

Any other shipper you would recommend? USPS? DHL? FEDEX?
How are import taxes?

Thank you for your help!!!

Member bulkmail is right. I would do my due diligence regarding this matter. Here's a little personal story from me: My brother lives in St Paulo, he wanted a pair of Nike Shox sent to him, I did so but when i shipped via FEDEX I claimed the value to be $120, true value, just in case it got lost I could "recoup" my $. Well when the Item arrived in Brasil the Feds charged my brother $98 USD to retrieve the shoes, they claimed he had to pay tax on those sneakers, if not the gov would keep the shoes. He had to pay the $98 to retrieve the shoes. What a BS.
The lesson learned was that when sending to Brasil all items must have a LOWER value and sent to the addressee as a used GIFT, or else HEAVY DUTIES will apply.
The USPS will give you shipping choices, if you specify AIRMAIL it may be more, the cheapest option will be ship, which takes longer. The correos have never lost the goods and you can require a signature for delivery.
Success on your enterprise.

Most perfumes and colognes are prohibited from being shipped internationally because only air services are available.

Brazil also has very tight restrictions on used consumer goods being sent into the country. You might want to read up on all of the Customs regulations before going ahead with your plan.

The USPS IMM is a great resource for what you can ship in to any country in the world as well as the rates.

I believe USPS is safe, but I am not quite sure about our posting service in Brazil.
I'll explain: Recently, I decided to buy some perfums from a US website, because it is so much cheaper than local prices. I never got then. I do not believe someone stole them in US, but we have some information about bad services in Brazil. So as customer, I would say go for couriers services. If you can get a nice deal with them, makes sense to pay a little bit more for shipping service. But, I say have a nince deal, because I can understand pay $35 for a shipping of $100 shopping, but I can not understand $70 for a shipping of $35 shopping. I already got both situations. Of course, I never close the deal on second situation.
Taxes... I can't say as expert, but I can say as buyer, if I get a $100 from website, would cost like $200. For some products even though, it makes sense.

I would look into a parcel forwarding company like Bongo International http://www.BongoUS.com as they will ship your goods via DHL and at a lower price than you would be able to get on your own. They also have the ability to fraud protect you from the consumers in Brazil.

Additionally, you are taking a huge risk with the USPS as you only get a delivery confirmation...not a Proof of Delivery. Therefore the receiver can dispute that he/she never received the goods. Check out Bongo as they are a huge benefit to small and mid-size retailers in the US wanting to ship overseas.
