Ibis is the best for you, honestly.
Last time I spent a night there (in march) it costed me R$121 + R$10 if you have breakfast in. |

One very nice hotel nearish Santo Dumont airport is the Hotel Gloria. Very Nice. But for good clean and US quality the best deal for your money is the IBIS. I think the cost is R$139 per night. This seems high but it is not for Rio. The other hotels in the area can be very CHEAP indeed. That area at night is a little like the red light district so don;t go too cheap.

Hotel Gloria is VERY EXPENSIVE 5 stars hotel.
No real good hotel near the airport. The area is not good. I mean, it can be ok during working hours, but at night and during weekends it is a VERY DANGEROUS AREA.
Reasonable hotels (clean, safe and inexpensive, but not very comfortable) near there (in order from the smallest distance from the airport to the biggest):
* Ibis Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont ( link http://www.accorhotels.com.br/guiahoteis/ibis/hotel_main.asp?cd_hotel=241 );
* Aeroporto Othon Travel ( link http://www.othonhotels.com/br/H00281/POR_index.asp )
* Formule One (link http://www.accorhotels.com.br/guiahoteis/formule1/hotel_main.asp?cd_hotel=200 ) - this one is not exactly close to the airport, but taxi will cost only US$ 5 (yellow taxi - there´s a big line of them in front of the airport). It is the newest hotel in Rio, very clean and probably the cheapest reasonable option you will have). |
