Shopping and a few questions about Rio?

I might be going to Rio w. my dad whos a pilot for the day, I heard not to wear purse, watch, jewlery, cameras, act like a local but what about sunglasses? And should you not be on your cellphone either? And how is the shopping there, like is it cheap or no? Would it be dangerous to carry around a shopping bag?
Additional Details
And how exactly do locals dress ? lol thanks so much btw i have dark hair naturally tan

umm in Brasil, its different. were not like america, where people will give you dirty looks or judge you if you dont wear the latest fashion or something flashy. us guys, usually dress in flip flops, a plain t shirt, board shorts, and sometimes a cap. yeah i dont really know about what girls wear in specific....

and why the sunglasses, someone can just pass by and steal them. youre just making yourself stand out more. carrying a shopping bag is ok i suppose.....and dont be arrogant, try to show off anything or disrespect anyone, or the culture, we respect you so we expect respect back.

Sunglasses are fine. The jewelry, cameras, etc, though, can be dangerous unless you're around a tourist spot, and even then you have to be careful. Rio's not a safe city and not a good example for Brasil, which is a much better country than Rio exposes. Cellphones are fine in the South Zone (Zona Sul), but go to either downtown or the North and West zones and it's a big no-no. If you're going for tourism, then you're going to stay in the South Zone anyway (where all the beaches are, tourism, etc).

Shopping bags are ok in the malls and around it. Be careful at night outside the malls. The prices are ok in the Real, the Brasilian currency, and are even better in dollar, which is about twice worth the Real.

Your hair color/skin color is fine. In Rio, color doesn't matter. Unlike in America, it's very common to find black/white couples. Just dress normally as in any part of the western world and you'll be fine.

Yes, you should not wear watch, jewelry etc. But there are things that we need bring with us, like cellphone, just don't show it. I think sunglasses are ok. The best shopping here is Barra Shopping! It is not so dangerous inside of the Shopping. Some people here have black hair, tan or white skin and some are black, some are blond.
