Tenting in South America?
im going backpacking in south amercia next september, im thinking of just getting a one man tent and a sleeping bag. Would i just be able to set it up in any place like a side of a road or in a jungle or beach or something? Is there any restrictions?
Don't make that, if you want to be in simple place we have the alberges da juventude that it is very entertaining and you will be very comfortable spending very little.

please.. don't make that mistake.... the crime rate in brazil is really high and you will be risking your life if you do that..
make sure you are safe or have someone else with you at all times!!!!!
You can go to the website couchsurfing .. they offer you a couch to sleep for free... but don't stay on the streets or beach.. it is really unsafe!

I don~t recommend this in Brazil, at least in teh populated areas... there is a lot of poverty and poor, and you will wake up with nothing...
Costa rica is a good place for back packing , but look into hostels (very cheap)
maybe buy a cheap car, and lock yourself in at night..
check out that couchsurfing site the other recomended, some of my brazilian girlfriends are letting people crash on their couch..
Good luck,happy travels
