What are some good beach points in Brazil other than Rio?

I'm planning a trip to Brazil and want to get some input. I've got 10 days to work with, 3 of which will be in Rio. I'm thinking about Natal and Fortaleza but have no knowledge of the two or any others really. Please help!

Well, i'm from south Brazil, so I may tell you that the best beaches over here stay in the State of Santa Catarina. One municipality may have many interesting beaches, as follows:

1 - Laguna: Farol de Santa Marta, Prainha, Cigana, Cardoso;
2 - Imbituba: Rosa, Ibiraquera;
3 - Garopaba: Ferrugem, Silveira, Gamboa, Guarda do Embau, Pinheira;
4 - Florianopolis: Jurere, Canasvieiras, Brava, Santinho, Mocambique, Mole, Joaquina, Campeche, Morro das Pedras, Matadeiro, Lagoinha do Leste, Pantano do Sul;
5 - Porto Belo & Bombinhas: Porto Belo, Bombas, Bombinhas, Quatro Ilhas, Mariscal, Canto Grande, Zimbros.

There are daily flights from Rio to Florianopolis. There you may rent a car, and go to any of these beaches quite easily, since they stand at maximum 100 miles from downtown Florianopolis, and the roads are all paved between the municipalities. Access to some beaches is unpaved, but it's worth the effort.
The best part of the year to be there is the summer (December - March). Right now it's Autumn, so you may get bad weather more often, and even cold. But the beaches are all very nice, and some very beautiful. Most of the beaches I indicated you are for surfing. Have a good trip!

you MUST go to Salvador, Bahia ! They have my favorite beaches out of brazil. Its the most beautiful and relaxing. and much nicer then rios i think.
There is a hotel called Blue Tree Towers. Wonderful hotel. Its on top of a mountain right next to the beach. One side you can see the beach.. the other side you get a great view of the city from up above. They have a swimming pool with a bar on the top of the building. The beach right below the hotel you can swim in. Its much too rocky. But you can take a cab ride just a few minutes away to some wonderful sites.. and just a few mintues away from the center of the city

if you need help on any other info you can email me .. its in my profile.

Good Luck

P.S
Brazil is not the largest aids capital of the world. Not even close. Brazil is behind the US by 5 spots. the 1st 7 countries are from Africa. USA is in 10th place.. Brazil is in 5th. Brazil is behind USA, China and RUSSIA.

Salvador de Bahia is just beautiful, its worth a visit but you must take a bus to go to the good beaches (30 minutes more or less). Other destinies I know: Maceio, Buzios both excellent. I've heard Puerto Gallinas is excellent too.

Florianopolis was fantastic when I was there, but there are also some cool beaches in Rio, apart from the main ones.
