Copacabana Palace (THE BEST), Hotel Marina, Marina Suites, Pestana Rio Atlantica, JW Marriott.

Don't stay in Copacabana - it's dangerous and at night is full of prostitutes... Ipanema and leblon are better - suggestions: Marina Hotel in Leblon and in Ipanema - Mar Ipanema if you are on a budget - Caesar Park - if you can spend a lot. Barra is very good - away from the city - Suggestion: The new Sheraton - twin towers - is the best - in front of the beach. The only problem is that barra is away from the city and to get there you have to cross two tunnels that are very dangerous- sometimes the drug dealers close the tunnels and rob everyone - if they don't kill.....

Don't stay in Leme either - the suggested hotel there would be Le Meridien, but the problem is that right across from the hotel are like 5 stippers club - a disaster for a family vacation. Rio is like Amsterdam - their main attraction is sex.

it is better to rent an aparthotel or an apartment ..the best hotel is the copacabana palace hotel built in the 50th and it is famous to host presisent and artist ....maybe you want an best quality price hotel any 4 stars hotels are fine in rio. Ipanema is better and you can walk around the lake with your kids...

Rio Atlantica is very good. Get one of the large rooms at the front of the hotel. You get fabulous views of Copacabana beach and the views at night are good. Ensure you stay to well lit safe areas where there are plenty of people. When you transit from the airport to the hotel you will pass through the poor areas and see the remarkable difference compared to the hotel area. There is security on most of the main hotels and police along the beachfront. Go see JC on the mount...astounding and of course visit sugarloaf mountain.

I just got back from 9 days in Rio. I stayed at the Copacabana Mar Hotel. It is a 3.5 star hotel and I would rate it as good and OK for everything. It is tot a 5 start resort luxury hotel. For the best hotels in Copacabana there is the Sofitel, Marriot and Otheon. These are closer to Ipanenma. Ipanema is by far more expensive than Copacabana. The closer you are to Ipanema, the more the cost. I have kids also, and I really would not want to bring them to Rio. As far as kids fun, there is little other than the beach. I would rather have a couple's escape to Rio. The Copacabana Palace is a nice place, my hotel was one block away from the Palace. The surrounding area is OK to decent and sometimes fair. With kids, I suggest anything on Ipanema. For a budget, you can go to Copacabana.

Don't know but I would keep in touch with your embassy about where is safe to go, there is currently some heavy gun warfare going on between the police and gangs. Be carefull. x

Copacabana Palace is the best hotel in rio, if u have money, u may go to there! There is other ones, but i cannot remember right now!
ow, u have young ones! u may go to the beaches in places like Angra, BÃºzios, Cabo Frio... There is good hotels in BÃºzios!
If money is not a problem, u better choose Copacabana Palace
