The bay of Rio is unbelievable

I was born in Rio, and in my opinion it is (or used to be) the most beautiful city in the world, but I have to say I'm glad I don't live there anymore. The city is dirty, the traffic is horrible, you can't walk the streets safely, crime and drug traffic is everywhere, the beaches are polluted and crowded. It's sad to see what decades of neglect and corrupt governments have done to the city.

Great city, The beaches are amazing copacobana or ipanima are definitely worth a visit. Also sugar loaf mountain and the statue of christ are worthwhile. You just have to watch out for the crime, especially on the beaches.

I live in Rio, too. The one that said that here, in Rio, you may find the worst and the best was pretty right. The wiew of the city from the sky is simply astonishing. I don't live downtown, but my neighborhood is a good and calm place to live.
I love my work. My co-workers are very nice and so are my friends. People in general are nice. I'll neve feel lonely here. But poverty is a big problem here. Increasing violence has been freaking me out. It's a shame my city's tourning out to be like this.

Rio has the best and the worse. The aerial view of Rio, believe me, it's one of the most beautiful of the world. Safety is the big challenge in Rio. You should watch the way locals dress and dress the same, get a Flamengo t-shirt, shorts and go. Then, meet locals and you'll have the time of your life. Avoid gringo attitude.

i was born in rio and i have to say the rest are right, sad to say rio is a very dangerous it all depends where you go,if you don't know where your going you can get in to some sh*t so if you going just be safe and keep a look out,i say go to fortaleza

Rio de Janeiro is quite a dangerous city actually, some parts worse than others. Unless you want to go to Mardi Gras (which technically Mardi Gras is everywhere in Brazil, just some prefer it here) or see the Statue of Christ. Or there is an area about an hour away called Cabo Frio which is beautiful, then I would say there are other parts of Brazil that I enjoy more. I think going to Manaus to enter into the Amazon or going to see Iguassu Falls is beautiful even thought that is really a stay one night sorta thing and I enjoyed Salvador. Either way, good and bad aspects in many cities, just be very careful there. Sao Paulo is actually more dangerous though than Rio, only people that go there aren't tourists they are normally on Business.

Ghastly place. Full of hoodlums. If you can't walk around a place in reasonable safety - which is the case in Rio - it's not worth visiting.
As for the beaches, I only went to Ipanema and Copacabana, but I thought they were crap.
