He didn't gained the power, he was elect president.
In the years seventy Lula was leader of the metallurgists' union. He made opposition to the military government (dictators), for inciting the metallurgists to do strike for better wages, he was arrested. when in the beginning of the eighties the military government was moved away and they chose president Tancredo Neves but in the day of the ownership the president died and in his place it assumed the vice president.José Sarney. After Sarney president Fernando Collor de Melo was chosen, that won the election against the candidate Lula da Silva. Acting in the opposition Lula got to depose the president proving that he and his wife had received tip of a bank, there was Collor's impeachment. Assumed the vice president that based a well happened economical plan that it put an end to the inflation from 80% a month. He got to choose president Fernando Henrique Cardoso that competed against Lula da Silva. Four years later president Fernando Henrique competes the reelection and he was reelect. He won the dispute against Lula da Silva. Four years later in new election José Serra competes against Lula da Silva and finally Lula was elect. |

The economical strategy that improved the life of Brazilians comes from the 8 years of his predecessor, Fernando H. Cardoso, who, btw, put an end to inflation. |
