Fabio,

Você já disse tudo sobre São Paulo, o meu ponto de vista é o mesmo do seu, é uma grande cidade, quanto a não ter uma grande ajuda financeira federal eu não concordo, o estado recebe grande volume de dinheiro federal.

I am from Rio. Rio de Janeiro is the second biggest city in Brazil. São Paulo is the first one. São Paulo is a city that works more about business and Rio de Janeiro about tourism. It doesn't mean that Rio can't have business but our biggest business is tourism.

Sao Paulo capital, is very busy and no very pleasant for living. However Sao Paulo is on of the most interesting cities in the world. many beautiful museums, best restaurants. alive and rich cultural life!
In Sao Paulo you will find different colonies from Japan, Italy, middle east etc.. it is a nervous city, just like new york however more dirty and disorganized . The state of Sao Paulo is different, you will find very nice cities, great to live, to raise children. The countryside cities are prosperous and slow pace. I've been raised in one of them and live in the USA now. Guarantee that living in the state of Sao Paulo is great!!

Though industrial and important, the city of Sao Paulo is huge, unpleasant and dirty, while the state of Sao Paulo is mostly farmland from what I've seen, which is sad. Economically, Sao Paulo is great. As far as a tourist destination, it is very lame.

Just like said, Sao Paulo does not have a noticeable federal support, since financial decisions aren't much made on public. It's just a matter of advertising.

Rio de Janeiro on the other side, have a big government advertising, because of the features of each province. Bahia and Rio are a tourism references, while Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais are the research/financial core, and Brasília is the political center, and so on.

For those who look for a quiet lifestyle, please find somewhere else.
Despite all the violence, and all such things that happens to big cities, Sao Paulo is known as 'the city that never sleeps', there's tons of great entertainment like: plays, music concerts, etc. You'll never get bored (if you got money, of course).

Fábio Hi, I'm from São Paulo.
sao paulo is the state capital of sao paulo and both city and state are richer because of Brazil here this concentrated most of the country's wealth. The larger factories, largest, richest population despite the fact that there is poverty and every major city. Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in the country.
Sao paulo is a very gray, is almost always garoando, has few trees, finally, is a city of stone, has many buildings, pollution, the traffic is horrible if you go by car, bus or subway, it is sad . But Sao Paulo has much entertainment, it has nightclubs, museums, libraries, all kinds of foreign restaurants, neighborhoods of immigrants, has much to do here, has not only beach in the city (which would be much more beautiful) we poluido Rio Tietê, this is regrettable.
