What small gifts can I buy in Brazil?

I'm in Brazil for 3 months and want to buy some small gifts for a few people back home. What authentic Brazilian things can I buy? Any ideas, or stuff you bought when in Brazil.

So far I haven't really seen anything that shouts out "Brazil"...

I'm in Sao Paulo, but soon travelling to Rio de Janeiro...

You said you're going to Rio and I think it's gonna be easier to find what your looking for there, since it's the most touristic city in Brazil and you'll see a lot of different souvenirs from all over the country.

In Rio, I guess you should walk the boardwalk from Copacana to Ipanema. There are many people offering many kinds of goods, such as bags, speedos, bikinis, t-shirts, hand crafts, flip flops, caps, among other things. All of them related to Rio and / or Brazil.
There are also big public fairs in the streets during the weekends. In Ipanema, there's a nice one at a park called "General Osório", one block from the beach ... it's very easy to get there. And there's also a huge one in Copacabana, in the middle sidewalk between the boardwalk and the first block across from the beach.. I can't remember exactly where but you should look for it. Most of those people on the stands can speak English, Spanish and other languages so you it's gonna be pretty easy to get things the way you want at a very reasonable price.

For gifts I'd recommend: havainas flip flops (the ones with the Brazilian flag); photo books, souvenirs in general, a bottle of "Cachaça" if you enjoy and know how to make "caipirinha" drinks, miniatures ( Christ, Sugar Loaf, ...) etc

I hope you enjoy Rio!! It's beautiful... Don't forget to visit Leblon, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Ipanema, Copacabana beach, Barra da Tijuca and Lapa night clubs!!
Take care ;-P

Hello there,

Welcome to Brasil...

Well, appart from buying the usual T-shirt and cap with the brazilian flag you could buy a spirit called 'cachaça' which you use to make the drink called caipirinha, typical from Brazil(just mix cachaça, sugar, lemon juice and ice). You can find it at any airport in Brasil, specially in Sao Paulo.
hope you enjoy your stay!
Regards

It's a beautiful day
I'm Brazilian, my husband is American, and he has the official jersey for the Brazilian soccer team, as well as a T-shirt about the World Cup 2014.
He loves these shirts!

its only on Sundays- anybody can tell you where it is ...

it has tons of booths set up and sells everything from art to jewlerly, to clothes to gifties

also if you won't be in the area on a sunday every evening all along the beach in copacabana they have booths set up there too sellling stuff...

Tshirts with Brazilian photos, cachaça(in any one kind of supermarket you can buy), soap stone art craft(specially chess)and precious stones. If you can take 2 or 3 days go to visit Ouro Preto(in Minas Gerais state, by bus from Rio de janeiro it takes 6 hours). The prices of precious stones are very good.

You can check gift shops that you can find on the malls. But, really, Sao Paulo is not a good place for souveniers, sorry.

I think you should buy , in Rio de Janeiro, something related to the Christ. So Go there and buy a miniature of it. It is now one of the seventh wonders of the world.
