Price depends on when you go. It's more expensive during their summer (Nov-Mar) and outrageous during carnival (varies every year) and New Years (Dec 29-Jan 1). The longer you stay the cheaper per day it becomes. I pay R 80 during off-season up to R100 during the season per day (about 10 day stay). Check out Vanna at http://www.vannarioflats.com.br/scripts/home/home.asp
and tell her what you want. She'll fix you up with something within your price range (if it's a reasonable range). She doesn't own any apartments but just works as an agent between you and the landlords (due to her English ability). Vanna has way higher standards then I do so she'll give you a good apartment, right in front of the beach, 1/2 block off Ave. Atlantica, block off Ave. Atlantica. Obviously the further from the beach you get the cheaper it becomes. Enjoy the trip.

I paid around R$650 per month to have my own bedroom in an apartment with 3 bedrooms, livingroom, dining room and kitchen. My boyfriend paid a little more, about R$880 including utilities, for an apartment with 4 bedrooms, 2 bath, decent sized empregada room, big kitchen, two livingrooms, etc. They get more expensive around the end of the year till march, around carnaval/new years. There are really so many apartments available, you just have to do some searching! There are also host families available. Good luck!! I hope you find a great place, its an AMAZING place to live.

Different prices for locals and foreigners.
Locals can rent it cheap, but they need a guarantor, and 30 months contract (accordingly to local laws). Also, we usually rent unfurnished.

Foreigners will demand more comfort and equipment than most of Brazilians, will spend more electricity, and will need if furnished, for short time only. No guarantor, so there are risks involved.

Somebody suggested Vanna, from vannarioflats . She is honest, very reputable person. I don´t really like the two apartments I´ve seen from her, but she probably can offer many others.

Other options: www.riocondo.com (ask for their oceanfront apartment) and www.ridearoundrio.com (they don´t advertise the apartments, but I know the owner manages a wonderful penthouse in Copacabana, and prices are good) .

You will pay around US$ 150 / day for a very good apartment, or around US$ 100 for a good one. Brazil is more expensive than most of the South American countries, except for Chile. It worths it, believe me.

Sorry, do you mean Copacabana?? It's expensive, but they all say it's worth it. I would suggest going to a "non-turist-like" place, where is safer and cheaper!
