When does Carnival in Brazil begin?
I´d like to go to Brazil this year, and some friends of mine who have been there told me I should go during Carnival, which is the best experience they have ever gone through in a foreign country. Please help me know when it happens!!!
Carnival is during the week that ends with Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras. It is the celebration before the catholic holiday of lent which is the 40 day fast that leads up to easter. Just as easter changes dates every year so does Carnival. This year it goes from 2-21 through 2-28, the last few days being the rowdiest.
Some of the best places to go to Carnival are Rio de Janiero, which is the biggest, and Salvador de Bahia, which I've heard is the coolest and wildest. Also, many of the Caribbean Islands have Carnival celebrations as well. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is based on the same holiday.

40 days before Easter(Ash Wed) Carnival is called Fat Tue. Better get going as they get a lot of tourist and the hotels fill up and get expensive. Plan to go for about 10 days as the events start at least a week in advance and you need a few days to rest up after it't over.
