The date of Brazilian carnival changes every year. May be january, february or march.
Brazilian carnival 2008 will take place from january, 31 to february, 5.
I also wanna remind you, that cheap places aren't always safe places...

There are better carnivals to go to than Rio. I understand that these days it's no longer on the street but in a stadium.
Be aware that the hotel and hostel prices rocket during the carnaval. I mean at least 5 fold! |

Obviously the best time to go to Rio for carnival is when carnival is happening--it's only a four day event. In 2008 it will be between Feb 2 and 5. It's on Feb 21 thru 24 in 2009. It ends yearly the day before Ash Wednesday. Approximately 1 million people flock to Rio for carnival so there are no "cheap" places during carnival. Expect to pay 50% more for everything due to supply and demand--ECON 101. The website www.vannarioflats.com.br has the best info I have found to date on carnival and she also rents apartments. If you don't have a place to stay already, you might have a hard time getting a place. |
