Due to my ,i have visited most cities there....but for sure and iam 100% sure that there are two places you would never forget in your whole life .they are a part of heaven on earth:
1- its an island called :FERNANDO DE NORONHA.
2-FORTALEZA.

BELIEVE me those are amazing especialy if you are with somebody you love.

Brazil is a large and diverse country. You should think about what you want to do on your vacation and choose a place or places based on that.

I stayed in Florianopolis once, and thought it was very nice! It's an island in the southern part of Brasil. 42 beaches to choose from...lots to do... It's not as full of crime as Rio, but everyone there said it is just as beautiful!

If you have the means to get there, i recommend the Northeast (Pernambuco, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte e Ceará) if you are looking for a paradise. And it doesn't matter what time of year you come because it makes 30º celcius everyday, and sunny.

If you want something more adventurous, the Amazon is an incredible place. Easy (but some of the best) parts to get to are Marajó island (not far from Belém city) but if you want to venture deeper, theres the Tapajó forest and Alter do Chão river beach near Santarém, and further on you can make expeditions from Manaus city or Tefé into the Ianomami reserve. Its a big area so you can really only cover a certain part each time.

If you are an ecological tourist, there are some amazing national parks like the Pantanal (through Bonito city, wetlands area full of wildlife), Chapada Diamantina (highlands area of waterfalls and hiking) and Lençois Maranhenses (a massive area of sand dunes and tidal pools)

Most people go to Rio and usually stay around the beaches of the south coast but you'll find a 'real' brazil in the northern areas.. if you need more info just email

Buzios for sure.
Its close to Rio (2 hours) so you can see the sights etc...
Great hotels, some 20 beaches, and very safe (no sharks either)
check www.buziosonline.com
for hotels i recomend
www.abracababrapousada.com.br
or www.casasbrancas.com
both small, sofisticated, great local, cosy...
check the sites.
both can provide transfers from Rio international so you dont have to worry about transport from Rio and back.
I agree, Fortaleza is amazing, Fernando de Noronha as well and many other places mentioned...
Buzios is great for a first time traveller to Brazil cause its close to Rio, where international flights land (well São Paulo as well)... has great infrastructure and you get to see Rio, which is still the major atraction in Brazil, and it deserves.
Comming to Brazil and not Rio its like going to France for the first time and not going to Paris, or going to the US and skipping NYC.
That way you get the best of the beach/relax part, with Buzios and also get to check Rio.

You're not planning to travel to Brazil all on your lonesome, are you?!?

And you're female too???

Hell no you ain't going all the way over there young lady!!!

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT travel to Brazil, or anywhere else in Central or South America on your own, is that clear?

It is simply NOT safe and much too dangerous, especially for a young & inexperienced girl like yourself!

Brazil is a dirty, rotten and extremely poor third world country with a disastrous economical infrastructure and is not the place to go to on your own.

If you must go, take a few big & strong male friends with you, by all means, and do NOT leave their sight, is that understood?

If you don't believe me, check this out:

wherever you decide, remember that Brazil has more sharks attacks with fatalities than anywhere else on earth.
