Several Confederate refugees from the American Civil War settled in the São Paulo in Americana city . Among them, there was William Hutchinson Norris, a senator from Alabama. 10 percent of the current population of Americana are of Confederado descent and about a dozen English-speaking families remain in the area.
About 300 of the Confederados are members of the Fraternidade Descendência Americana (Fraternity of American Descendants). They meet quarterly at the Campo Cemetery.

There should be someone who organizes get together events for the international community. When we lived in Rio we met loads of Americans, Brits and Germans etc who got together regularly for BBQ's. I used to go to the weekly mothers play dates, look on the internet for International Community of Sao Paulo, there should be a website with contact numbers and events. The person above has even provided links, perfect. Enjoy. |
