Hello! I'm Brazilian and I think I can help!

North - Amazon Region - good for ecotourism. Beautiful landscape, wild animals, rainforest...

Notheast- Greeeeeat beaches! Fortaleza, Natal, Recife... white sand beaches, warm ocean, coconut water!

Mid West - Brasília (capital) - beautiful, clean, organized city. Lots of gorgeous monuments.

Southeast - Rio de Janeiro (what should I say?!!!), beautiful people, samba, carnival, ...
São Paulo - business, culture, architecture...

South - European colonization. Great seafood and "churrasco" (Brazilian barbecue), beaches, beautiful people.

It depends on what you want.
If you want to work and make money the best place is Sao Paulo. Nothing to see there, no nature - concrete jungle only, but best services in the whole country.
If you want relaxation and contact to nature, the best place is probably somewhere in the northeastern coast. Some suggestions: Prado, south of Bahia State; Pipa, Rio Grande do Norte State.
If you are not sure about what you want, so Rio de Janeiro is the best. In Rio you can enjoy the big metropolitan center with all facilities from modern life, and also forest, beaches, countryside - You can find it all in Rio.
Because I love History, Arts and Architecture I can also recommend Paraty (beach and islands - wonderful location!) and Ouro Preto (mountain ) - two colonial towns preserved from 18th center.

Have visited Rio, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais & Parana States. Each is a little different. Parana was a bit cooler though, which suited me (European). I do recommend Minas Gerais "The Green Mountain State".

Depends a lot on what you are looking for.
For the the southeast is the best, Rio, São Paulo, Minas Gerais...

The best place is Rio de Janeiro.

Because the places, beachs, modern buildings on Barra da Tijuca and Historcial streets.
The best national companies: Bank of Brazil, Embratel, Telemar, Globo Television, Petrobras and many companies.

The people, beautifull houses, the history, job, technologic and other things

The Corinthian
I've only been to the southeast. I enjoyed both Sao Paulo and Rio (sorry Cariocas, but I like Sao Paulo more). I also enjoyed Campos do Jordao

Everyone says Rio or Sao Paulo, but a great place to visit that I think gets overlooked is Salvador. I lived there for two years and you would be hard pressed to find a better place that combines history (former capital of Brasil) with great food and great beaches. Salvador is absolutely beautiful and you can find so much to do there, not to mention that it would cost less than visiting the "tourist" areas of Rio and Sao Paulo.

I have visited the West, South and Southeast of the country. You should travel to Brasilia, Bonito (a city in the middle of a region called Pantanal, one of the most beautiful places), Florianópolis (this is my favorite city in the south. It has an amazing nature, it´s a rich and beautiful city, and it´s a island). In northeast, I knew Fortaleza (another big city, with a lot of "glassed" buildings, wonderful beaches, sand, amusement parks etc).
