Ive never eaten sand, but it seems Bart is the expert.

Well, you should come to the southeast, a lot of people will recomend the northeast but the south is a lot more developed.

Rio has plenty of veggie places, my sister is vegan and lived there for a lot time.
But its a crowded big town.

I always suggest Buzios (www.buziosonline.com.br)
Its 2 hours north of Rio, a peninsula with some 25 beaches, safe and very tourist oriented.
There are some 300 Inns and B&B.
My favorite are:
www.abracadabrapousada.com.br
and
www.casasbrancas.com

Both supperb, the first with a younger crowd.
In Buzios you wont have problems to find veggie places to eat, nor in Rio.

Even the giant BBQ houses in Brazil have massive salad buffets, really massive.

In Buzios check out a restaurant/kiosk in Praia Brava (best beach for me, not tourist at all) called CAMARÃO PRETO (Black Shrimp). They have amazing veggie dishes.
The manager, Pauline, an Argentine girl, is amazing, she makes you feel at home as soon as you arrive. The bartender Alex is quite a caracter too.

Enjoy, I´ve been going to Buzios since I was a kid and its a magical place.

Any, sand tastes exactly the same to veggies and meateaters alike.

Beaches on the northeast coast are wonderful, but also in Bahia and near Rio de Janeiro.

Most places will have a vegetarian option.
There are plenty of "kilo buffet" restaurants in Brazil, with big salad bar, pasta dishes, rice and bean (but ask if there's any pork in the bean stew).
There are "kilo" restaurants for all budgets, some are quite simple (and very cheap), but you can also get more sophisticated ones.
Be aware: in many places people will think that vegetarians won't eat red meat only, and will serve you food with chicken/fish. Also it happened to me many times the case where bacon and ham were not considered "meat" so they thought i would eat it.
You will also find lots of Italian restaurant throughout Brazil, with vegetarian dishes.
Have fun in Brazil!!

any beach is friendly to vegetarian food because all of them there´s restaurants or beach service that serves seafood, salads and appetizers without red meat.

I would say... try the Northeast coast: Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte. great infrastructure and the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. Have fun!

In Brazil there is no law saying that you have to eat meat while there.
Therefore, you can eat whatever you want at the Brazilian beaches.
