Which Other States In Brazil Besides Parana Would I Racially Stick Out The Least? |
My mother is an American of Irish ancestry and my father is a Brazilian of Portuguese and German ancestry, but I was born and raised in the United States. The only state in Brazil I have ever visited on vacation was Parana because that is where my father was born so I have family there (I don't count Sao Paulo because I only passed through their international airport on my way to Parana). Since most of the people I saw in Parana were White I didn't feel that I looked out of place.
But what other states in Brazil would I not stick out because of my color ?
Here is what I look like.

Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul are states with great European influence, mainly Germans, Poles, Austrians, Swiss and Italian. But São Paulo is a cosmopolitan city received great contingent of Italian settlers. You would pass unnoticed in any of those cities. |

Any state, man. Rio, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Ceará, etc. Even in Bahia, the state with largest black population, whites are as commom as houses, cars and grass. Whites are not an anormal or uncommon persons in Brazil, dude. I'm from Rio and you look as a normal white. I have studied with many guys just like you and I see many, everytime I'm walking thorugh the streets.
"...northeast which is dominantly Black...and race is classified much differently than in the USA"
(1) Northeast was colonized by dutches, jewishes and portuguese, but, now, they are almost all, blacks? Funny...
(2) Yes. We classify races too much different. We call Obama white, for example and George Bush is black in Brazil. We have no notion of race, of course. Only people from USA knows how to classify races...

Hmm, honestly, in the north of Brazil like in Roraima, Amazonia, Pará, Rio Grande do Norte and etc
But you look pretty like many people around here, we would only find out that you are not a Brazilian when you open your mouth and we see that you dont speak portuguese or if you don't stare at a beautiful girl going down the street, even gays stare at them! We brazilians are "tarados" |

I am White and stayed a month in the northeast which is dominantly Black. Why would you care if you are surrounded by Blacks? And like everywhere, those with the lighest skin are the wealthiest.
Brazil is far more diverse than the USA, and race is classified much differently than in the USA, but I don't see why you need to ask this. Just enjoy Brazil. People are open-minded and incredibly friendly. |
